Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do you work as therapist?

I am licensed and trained as a clinical psychologist, but I now devote myself to research and teaching on family violence issues. Much of this research involves working with victims of family violence, and I supervise the work of clinicians doing family violence therapy, but I no longer see patients in a clinical setting.

Can you recommend a good therapist for dealing with family violence issues?

There are many excellent clinicians dealing with family violence issues. I suggest that you start to locate one in your area using the resources identified in the links section.

Do you provide training to professionals in dealing with family violence?

Yes, I have developed training materials for professionals who want to deal with family violence issues more effectively. And, on occasion, I provide training to groups of professionals.

Do you serve as a witness in judicial cases involving family violence? Can you testify in my case involving family violence?

I rarely testify in court. I have found that serving as a witness simply takes away too much time from other work that I feel I should be doing.
